Weekly Residential Refuse Collection
Village residents are limited to three (3) containers before realizing a service charge. Refuse, including recyclable, shall be placed at the curb for collection no earlier than 6 p.m. the night before the scheduled refuse collection day.

Containers
One plastic can or one metal can or one heavy duty plastic bag is considered one (1) container. Each container must not exceed twenty-five (25) pounds or thirty-two (32) gallons. Each container must be fastened or covered with a lid. Cardboard boxes, paper barrels or paper bags cannot be used as standard refuse containers. ANY CONTAINERS OVER THREE (3) WILL REQUIRE A RED STANDARD STICKER!

Red Standard Sticker
The red standard sticker must be affixed to the extra refuse; not the refuse can or cover. Purchase the standard sticker at the Village Office, 59 Henry Street, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Each standard sticker costs $1.00. Your address must be on the sticker. The sticker is to be disposed of with the refuse and will ONLY BE USED ONCE.

Bulk Refuse
Items that cannot be broken down to fit in a standard container are bulk items. Examples are washers, dryers, microwaves, toilets, sinks, wood, TV's, box springs, and furniture. Each bulk item requires a green bulk sticker.

Metal and Appliances are picked up on Friday’s.
All other Bulk refuse will be picked up on regular refuse days with appropriate stickers.

Green Bulk Sticker
The bulk sticker must be affixed to each bulk item. The bulk sticker can be purchased at the Village Office, 59 Henry Street, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM (9:00 AM to 4:00 PM June - August) Each bulk sticker costs $5.00. Your address must be on the sticker and the sticker is to be disposed of with the refuse and will ONLY BE USED ONCE. Place sticker under seat of upholstered furniture.

Bulk Refrigerants
Bulk items that contain refrigerants such as refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, dehumidifiers require a green bulk sticker. The fee is $15.00. Remember to remove refrigerator and freezer doors prior to placing at the curb.

Corrugated Cardboard
All cardboard must be flat. The corrugated cardboard is to be cut into bundles two feet wide by two feet long by two feet high. The bundle must be tied with twine or string. Place the bundle next to or under the yellow box. Corrugated cardboard must be free of food wastes. Large bundles of cardboard are often left at the curb for collection later in the day by a second truck. NO WAX CARDBOARD, EGG CARTONS, OR ANY OTHER FOOD BOXES.

Boxboard
Cereal boxes, tissue, gift, and shoe boxes, detergent and cake mix boxes, toilet and paper towel tubes are acceptable. Remove liners from boxes. Place in the yellow box. No wet or soiled boxes. No egg cartons.

Magazines
All glossy magazines and catalogs are acceptable. Magazines can be put in a brown paper bag. Place in the yellow box and keep dry.

Newspapers
Stack dry newspapers (including supplements) in a brown paper bag and place the bag in the yellow box. No Newsprint in plastic bags.

Plastics
Plastic containers with either a #1 or 2 on the bottom are accepted. All tops must be removed from the plastic containers as they are not recyclable. Rinse out the container and flatten it; place in the blue box.
NO DEPOSIT OR OIL CONTAINERS.

Glass (Food or Beverage Containers)
Rinse out all clear, brown, and green glass; you do not have to remove labels. Remove tops; plastic rings can be left on. NO CERAMICS, PLATE GLASS, AUTO GLASS, PYREX, LEADED, FLAT GLASS, DEPOSIT BOTTLES, MIRRORS, OR LIGHT BULBS. Place in the blue box.

Metal Cans (Food or Beverage Containers)
Rinse out all food residue from cans. Cans should be flattened; labels do not have to be removed. NO OIL, PAINT, OR PESTICIDE CANS. REMEMBER: METAL CANS, GLASS AND PLASTIC CAN BE CO-MINGLED TOGETHER IN YOUR BLUE BOX.

Aerosols
Empty and dispose of CAPS, NO paints or pesticides.
Place in blue box.
Reminder: Please do not use plastic bags or brown grocery bags to separate plastic, glass, or cans.

Tires
Tires must be removed from the rims or a $5.00 charge will be incurred for each tire left on the rim. Tires will be collected at the curb on your normal refuse day.

Brush
No vines or thorns. Brush is defined as tree trimmings 1" or larger in diameter. Brush is collected on Fridays as follows:

North of West Ave. and East Ave. - First and third Friday of each month.

South of East Ave. and West Ave. - Second and fourth Friday of each month.

Brush must be placed at the curb, large ends with the flow of traffic and not blocking the sidewalk. Reminder: Leave brush as long as possible. Do not cut into short lengths.

Motor Oil
Call the Village Office at 392-4144 to reserve a special 2.5 gallon plastic container for this purpose. Set the container by your refuse for collection.

Yard Waste
Collection days are the LAST FRIDAY in APRIL, MAY, JUNE, and SEPTEMBER.

2011 Yard Waste Collection Schedule

Sod, Leaves, Small Stones, Gravel, Twigs, Hedge Trimmings, Grass, and Small Stumps. Material must be in a plastic or metal container and placed at the street for collection by 7:00 AM. Containers must not exceed 30 pounds. Loose material, plastic or paper bags, and cardboard boxes will NOT be collected. You may place more than 3 containers at the curb for collection. This collection does NOT require stickers.

Brush will be collected on the normal schedule of:
North of West Ave & East Ave. 1st & 3rd Friday of each month.
South of West Ave & East Ave 2nd & 4th Friday of each month.

Grass Clippings

Grass clippings are not permitted in your weekly refuse collection under New York State Law.

Leaves - Fall Collection Only!
Do not bag leaves; place in loose piles between sidewalk and street. Do not rake into the street! Begins October through early December.

Household Hazardous Waste
Most household paint and chemicals are safe when used and stored properly. When disposed of improperly, household wastes can become environmental hazards. Monroe County provides residents with a way to safely recycle or dispose of these items free of charge. Please contact Monroe County Dept of Environmental Services at 760-7600 for an appointment.

Paints
Latex paint, 1/4 can or less mix with saw dust or kitty litter, allow to dry and dispose of in your regular refuse. All paints can be recycled on the special Hazardous Waste Collection Day.

Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs (CFLs)
CFLs are considered a household hazardous waste due to the small amount of mercury that can be released in the environment if sent to landfills. Home Depot stores are now accepting expired, unbroken CFLs for recycling or you can make an appointment with Monroe County (760-7600) to take them to a household waste collection site.
